The timber is a Heavy Hardwood with a density of 850-1,155 kg/m3 air dry. Yellow Balau is a very popular timber for outdoor decking as well as structural works especially in humid and damp conditions due to the high durability of the wood. The heartwood of this timber is naturally durable and will be lasting at least 15 years which makes it one of the most durable timbers. Though durable without any further treatment, some engineers might prefer to treat it with preservatives to further bolster protections. The Texture is fine and even, with deeply interlocked grain. The timber is suitable for heavy structural works, marine constructions, piling, beams, heavy duty columns, wharves etc.
