Burmese Teak has a shade of golden-brown with a decorative grain which is aesthetically pleasing for indoor décor items. It is known for its durability and stability due to its natural resistance to attack by decay, fungi and termites.
Merbau is a heavy hardwood which is known for its high durability and beautiful colour and grain. Mahaas’ line of Merbau Flooring products is manufactured from sustainably sourced Malaysian Merbau timber. The flooring is not only beautiful but also has impressive physical features including its hardness, resistance to weather changes, and resistance to deformation.
The timber is soft to moderately soft and light to moderately heavy with a density of 515-755 kg/m3 air dry. It is classified under Light Hardwood in Malaysia.
The timber is moderately durable under exposed conditions. The sapwood appears to be susceptible to blue stain fungal infection and to powder-post beetle attacks.
The timber is very easily treated with preservatives.
Texture is slightly coarse and uneven, due to the broad rays and wide layers of parenchyma. Grain is straight or shallowly interlocked.
The timber falls into Strength Group C (Burgess, 1958) or SG 3 (MS 544:Part 2:2001).
Kempas is a heavy hardwood that is durable in a variety of hot and humid conditions. It is known for its naturally beautiful tone and grain and is much more cost effective compared to other varieties with similar properties. The timber is a Light Hardwood with a moderately fine texture and interlocked grain. Sometimes referred to as ‘Burma Mahogany’, Melunak is famous for its beautiful interlocked grain and its dark brown colour. Mahaas uses Malaysia Melunak for our range of flooring products
Siberian Larch timber is a softwood that comes from a tree native to cold climates and the cold climate leads to a timber that is more durable than many other softwoods. The wood is warm with a distinctive grain pattern that contains a mixture of straight and swirling patterns, is a great choice for flooring. Mahaas offers a variety of flooring options developed from Siberian Larch.
